DIYALA - Reserves in the Mansourieh gas field have reached about 5 trillion cubic meters, said the energy committee in Diyala province today, adding that huge amounts of gas are burned each day without them being used to advance the province's deteriorating infrastructure.
Committee chairman Ismail al-Jabbouri said that several conferences and seminars were held with the responsible parties to accelerate the investment of Mansourieh gas field to provide alternative financial resources for the shortage in the annual budget and to support economic growth in the province.
The agreement of Siba field, located in Basra, was signed with Turkish state-owned company Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) and Kuwait Energy Company (KEC) to produce 100 million cubic feet per day for 20 years.
A group led by TPAO, which includes KEC and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), signed a separate contract to develop the Mansourieh gas field near the Iranian border in Diyala province to produce 120 million cubic feet per day for 20 years.
Iraq, which is a member in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, has the fourth largest oil reserves in the world and it burns about 700 million cubic feet of gas per day in the southern oil fields.
