CAIRO, March 12 (AKnews) - The Arab League will send its Secretary General to Baghdad early next week ahead of the summit, to check the progress of preparations and report back to Arab leaders and kings.
The representative of Iraq to the Arab League Dr. Qais Al-Azzawi revealed to AKnews that the Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari had summoned the Arab League's Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi to visit Baghdad and reassure Arab leaders and guests about summit preparations.
"The Secretariat of the Arab League will form soon the technical delegations that will head to Baghdad before holding the summit to complete all technical and logistic issues," Azzawi said.
Azzawi also shed some more light on the invited parties to the Arab League summit on March 29. "Iraq invited four organizations to participate in the upcoming summit: The United Nations, the European Union, the African Union and the Islamic Cooperation Organization," he said.
"Iran is not among those invited because the summit will be Arab and limited to Arab guests, with the possibility of members of the diplomats in Baghdad attending in the opening session."
The Arab summit, held in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, is scheduled to be preceded by two days the meeting of Arab economic ministers and one day by the meeting of Arab foreign ministers.
The Arab summit will be held amid continuing tensed conditions in the Arab region and is the first summit after the events of the Arab spring.
