BAGHDAD, Sept. 2 (AKnews) - The economy and investment committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives said the Council of Representatives legislated a group of laws that guarantee transforming Iraq from a centralized economy to a free economy, adding that the non-application of these laws by the executive branch hampered the transformation.
The former laws of some Iraqi ministries are still valid despite the passage of more than nine years since the change of the regime in the country.
Committee chairman Mahma Khalil said: "The Council of Representatives initiated customs laws and consumer protection and amended the investment law and all of them are designed to help Iraq shift its economy from a centralized to free economy.
"The problem lies in the application of laws by the executive branch, where until now there has been a delay in their application of such as the customs law. The non-application of laws will affect industry and won't create competition in production."
