Kuwait, Iraq express satisfaction over joint cmte meeting
KUWAIT, May 26 (KUNA) -- Representatives of the foreign ministries of the State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Iraq showed Thursday their satisfaction at the positive atmosphere marked by candour and transparency during the meeting held by the Kuwaiti-Iraqi Joint Committee.
Iraqi Ambassador in Kuwait Mohammad Bahr Al-Ulum said, in a statement to KUNA, that the Iraqi delegation arrived here yesterday coming from Baghdad, "in order to follow up, and get sufficient information regarding misgivings that surfaced in the Iraqi street on the project of Mubarak Al-Kabeer on Boubyan island." Further, Bahr Al-Ulum expressed his satisfaction over results of the meeting which was, "very reassuring and comprehensive as it tackled all questions posed by the Iraqi side, and answered professionally, and accurately by the Kuwaiti side." He also made clear that these results will be submitted to the political leadership in his own country, "in order to make them well-acquainted and to provide them with all necessary information including an array of maps and documents," noting that the delegation will make a trip to the project's site to closely watch all works on the ground.
In the same vein, Bahr Al-Ulum expressed his thanks and appreciation for the members of the Kuwaiti delegation for what they showed of candour at the meeting, and for their positive attitude on maintaining the main goal of keeping good ties between the two brotherly countries.
Meanwhile, Khaled Al-Mughamis, Director of the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry's Follow-up and Coordination Directorate, and head of the Kuwaiti delegation at the meeting, said, "we have briefed the Iraqi delegation on the background details of Mubarak Al-Kabeer port project as well as information which were not known to them." Al-Mughamis added that, "we have totally clarified the project's purpose, its mechanisms, and the measures which are being taken in the present time." Asked if the meeting led to the issue of some recommendations, Al-Mughamis said that no recommendations were made by the meeting, "as it is just a technical working team that had some questions, and wanted to get some answers for them, and so it is a kind of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in order to clarify some matters that may be unknown for Iraqi brothers."
