Iraq calls for the International Atomic Energy Agency to support him in the peaceful use of nuclear energy

He called Iraq during his participation in the International Conference on nuclear security [strengthening international efforts] in Vienna to support in the area of the peaceful use of nuclear energy.


According to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said that "Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari of Iraq's delegation participating in the Conference and delivered a speech at the Conference, Zebari Iraq highlighting Iraq and implementation of international obligations and laws and legislation on disarmament and non-proliferation and stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation frameworks to address nuclear dangers".

The Minister reviewed the achievements and steps taken by the Iraqi Government to confront nuclear threats and weapons of mass destruction, calling on the International Atomic Energy Agency for the support of Iraq in the area of the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

And the statement that "Iraq's participation in international conferences and presiding over the Conference on disarmament and of the provisions of Chapter VII are to strengthen the position of Iraq in the international community."

The statement concluded that "the Iraqi delegation included Undersecretary for planning Affairs political aura Shaker and Chairman of the Department of international organizations and cooperation Ambassador Hamad Bamarni, the Permanent Representative of Iraq to the International Atomic Energy Agency Ambassador Surood Najeeb, Chief of the national monitoring Jawad and Hussein Abbas, Chairman of the Iraqi radioactive source regulatory authority."

The Security Council last Thursday voted overwhelmingly to exit Iraq from international sanctions imposed under the provisions of Chapter VII, because of the previous regime's invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
