Turkey Proposes More Border Crossings

Turkey has offered to jointly build two more border crossings with Iraq, in addition to two new gates recently agreed upon, according to a report from Today’s Zaman.
The Turkish Customs and Trade Minister, Hayati Yazıcı , told the press in Ankara on Wednesday that the government favoured the construction of two new posts in the provinces of Hakkari and Şırnak.
The offer comes less than a week after a deal was struck to build two new other new crossings between the countries, based on a plan agreed in 2009.
Trade between Turkey and Iraq is expected to reach $16 billion this year.
