The MOU was signed by the President of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Najafi on the last day of his visit to Pakistan at the head of an Iraqi parliamentary delegation.
According to the provisions of this memorandum, which came into effect from today December 9, 2013 pledges both sides to work together to enhance cooperation in all areas of development parliamentary such legislative procedures and the drafting of legislation and legislative research, and exchange laws, the Working Committee and the oversight role, and the infrastructure of the secretariat of the parliament.
The Memorandum of Understanding on the two sides agreed to encourage contacts between the two parliaments through the establishment of friendship groups in Pakistan's National Assembly and the Council of Representatives of Iraq, and the organization of regular parliamentary interactions through the exchange of bilateral visits on an ongoing basis in order to develop understanding and communicating better.
The two sides pledged cooperation, consultation and support each other in all multilateral parliamentary forums with respect to each other about the positions of the two countries, regional and global issues.
The memorandum of understanding also includes the provision of a sustainable platform for women and young parliamentarians and recommended Memorandum of Understanding to promote and protect the interests of both sides in the field of commerce, communities and other areas of social sector, culture and economic development.
Under the memorandum the two sides work on the exchange of experiences in the field of capacity building for parliamentarians and officials through the organization of joint workshops, seminars and conferences, and efforts are dedicated to the implementation of this MOU through consultation
According to the memorandum, the two sides are pointing to relations as historical, religious and cultural relations between Pakistan and Iraq since time immemorial, but now needs to be further strengthened.
Both sides acknowledged that the mutual benefits that can be derived from parliamentary cooperation will lead to the promotion of democratic governance and the rule of law.
They agreed that parliamentary relations are an important part of the relations between the peoples and strengthen parliamentary relations in the areas of bilateral and multilateral helps to strengthen mutual trust and understanding, and expand coordination and enhance cooperation. Ended
