An MP of The Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq who is part of The National Iraqi Alliance called the government on Friday ****to file a lawsuit against Iran in order to impel the latter to pay compensations for its war against Iraq and said that Tehran threats to open the war compensations file is considered a political threat. ****
MP Faleh Al Sari said during an interview with Alsumarianews that when Iraq talks about some issues related to Iran’s behaviors towards it such as raids against the borders and cutting supplies of Wand River waters, Iranian government spokesman starts threatening to open the file of war indemnities Iran wants from Iraq as a result of Iraq-Iran war. Sari called Iraq government to open a similar lawsuit asking Iran itself to pay indemnities for its war against Iraq.
“Iraq is a sovereign country and it engages to the resolutions of the UN, he also added that there is no international resolution that impels Iraq to give indemnities for Tehran for the war between the two countries”, Sari said, adding that these demands are being voiced for political pressure aims,
Al Sari called the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to use the help of a group of lawyers in this regard and criticized the Iraqi diplomacy that cannot maintain its relation with neighboring countries.
Iranian government spokesman had said during a press conference this week in Teheran that Iran knows when is the right time to open the file of compensations for Iraq-Iran war.
The Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq led by Ammar Al Hakim is considered one of the most important Shiite parties which supported Iran and its leaderships since Saddam Hussein regime. However the relation between the party and the Iranian leaderships regressed since the beginning of 2010 as it started to tend more towards Arab partners.
UN delegation to Iraq said in October 30, 2010 that Iran right to ask Iraq for compensations for the war between the two countries that lasted for 8 years from 1980 till 1988 is linked to the decision of UNSC.
