Assistant Secretary of U.S. Department of State Appreciates KRG's Stabilities

THOMAS PRAISED THE ROLE OF PESHMERGA IN PROVIDING SUCH A STABLE ENVIRONMENT
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region: A delegation of the United States of America headed by Thomas M. Countryman, the Assistant Secretary for International Security and Nonproliferation, accompanied by Joseph Pennington, U.S. Consul General in Erbil visited Dr. Dindar Zebari, Assistant Head of DFR for International Organizations, to discuss the current issues in Kurdistan Region and the new cabinet formation as well as human rights.
Thomas expressed his happiness to be in Kurdistan for the first time and praised the role of Peshmerga in providing such a stable environment towards development and prosperity.
Assistant Secretary of U.S. Department of State also mentioned the role of KRG in building more institutions compared to other parts of the area which encouraged a large number of investors to come and invest here in the region.
Regarding women's rights in Kurdistan, Thomas highlighted the importance of a specific law that challenges violence against women in Kurdistan which has been passed recently, and said, "We want to discuss the same law with Baghdad officials to review their laws on women."
On his side, Dr. Dindar Zebari, Assistant Head of DFR for International Organizations announced that KRG will continue working on reforms in its institutions and take serious steps to improve human right conditions in the region in general, as well as unification of the Peshmerga forces and other KRG institutions was also discussed .
