The Kurdish Globe A Kurdish member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives says that the Iraqi forces have to guarantee that the Kurds in Mosul will be protected during the liberation process of the city, which is currently being planned for. MP Mohsin Saadoun told a local Kurdish news website that the current population of the city of Mosul is 1.3 million, comprising of different ethnicities. ?However, after the invasion of the city by the ISIS (Islamic State) the Kurdish residents of Mosul fled into Kurdistan Region,? says MP Saadoun. ?Those Kurds who are still inside the city are under the threat of ISIS. Therefore it is now the responsibility of the Iraqi Army and the Hashd al Sha?bi to treat the liberation process in a responsible manner.? According to the Kurdish MP, the Kurdish Peshmarga Forces will not directly participate in the liberation process, but rather will be a backup and support for the frontline forces who will compel ISIS out of the city. ?In the same time Kurds want to get a guarantee that the Kurdish residents of Mosul are not tortured, since for Kurdistan Region any assault on Kurds for any reason is unacceptable.?
MP Saadoun says the people of Mosul should understand what Peshmarga forces have been doing were to protect them, so the principles of Peshmargas shall become an example for the local protection forces of the city. Saadoun argues that Peshmarga should stay on the northern borders of the city of Mosul as they have become the reality of protecting the borders. ?Baghdad should know this reality that the existence of Peshmarga forces in Mosul is a need and a reality, and if it was not because Peshmargas? existence north of Mosul, the situation of the area would have been completely different now.?
