The parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, stated that "The law permits to extend the term of the Independent High Electoral Commission for more terms if the political disputes will not be settled over nominating the new board of Commissioners."
In a press conference held on Wednesday, Nijaifi said "We have called the head of the IHEC, Faraj al-Haidari, and informed him about the necessity of providing the logistic issues for the elections as we called the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, over the necessity of granting financial grants that reach 175 USD Millions to the IHEC and to provide an urgent grant that is ten USD Millions for the Commission,” noting that “Maliki promised to grant them as soon as possible."
