Maliki provides the parliament with a report on the security forces’ readiness

Baghdad (NINA) - Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki announced that he presented to Parliament a preliminary report about the Iraqi forces’ readiness in case US forces withdrew.

He said in a news conference today "the US forces’ presence issue need a national consensus, and this needs the opinion of the political blocs."

He added "it is essential to keep foreign trainers to train the Iraqi forces on the weapons that were brought to them."

Meanwhile, Maliki said he believes what happened last Thursday in parliament, voting on not withdraw confidence from the Independent High Electoral Commission, is part of the democratic context."

He noted that IHEC questioning was constitutional, and that there are follow-up on matters raised with respect to the work of the Commission. /End/
