IHEC, UNAMI discuss preparations for hoding elections

Baghdad (AIN) –The Chairman and the members of the commissioners council of the Independent High Electoral Commission discussed with the Head of the UN Assistance Mission to Iraq, Martin Kobler, the last preparations carried out by the IHEC for the elections of the provincial councils.
The IHEC reported in statement received by AIN on Tuesday "Kobler stressed the appreciation of the UN for the efforts exerted by the IHEC to conduct and grant the success of the elections.''
"The meeting included discussions of postponing the elections in Anbar and Nineveh provinces in order to conduct the elections after April 20th in accordance with the report of the High Security Committee of Elections,'' the statement added.
"The IHEC still assures its readiness to conduct the elections in all Iraqi provinces,'' the statement pointed out.
"At the end of the meeting, the Head of the UN Assistance Mission to Iraq stressed the necessity to continue cooperation between the UNAMI and IHEC in order to upgrade the democratic process in Iraq,'' the statement concluded. \END\
