Baghdad (Forat) -UNAMI reiterates its full support for the independence and the integrity of the IHEC.
The Commission's independence and integrity are provided by the Constitution and all political entities have the responsibility to respect it”, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Mr. Nickolay Mladenov said in a statement received by Alforat News Agency.
He continued “the IHEC has demonstrated a high level of professionalism in planning and conducting complex elections, including the next Council of Representatives’ elections, despite security concerns."
The SRSG further urged the Board of Commissioners to continue their work and for everyone to cooperate in addressing existing concerns within the Constitution and the legal process.
“The people of Iraq must not be prevented from voting and choosing their representatives on April 30th. Any delay for political or other reasons will set a dangerous precedent for the country", Mr. Mladenov concluded. /End/
